OTTAWA – The Ottawa Geek Market is pleased to announce that its next event will be taking place on October 19th and 20th at Carleton University’s Fieldhouse. The event is the region’s largest annual geeky flea market, and this year the Geek Market will be donating proceeds from the event to three charities that support the local anti-bullying movement: Kids Help Phone, Jer’s Vision, and the Distress Centre of Ottawa and Region. Why three charities? Because each of these charities focuses their support services to different age groups (children, youth, and adults) and bullying can affect anyone of any age.
“We created this event to support Ottawa’s thriving geeky community while also raising money for some amazing charities,” said Stacey Young, Co-Founder of the Ottawa Geek Market. “Last year we hosted our inaugural event and we raised more than $2,400 for charity and welcomed over 2,100 attendees in one single day. This year we’ve decided to go bigger and better and are offering all sorts of new attractions at our event including a green screen photo booth where patrons can get their photos taken with some of their favourite geeky characters.”
The two-day shopping experience will feature exhibitors selling items ranging from comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, and steampunk, to horror, anime, gaming and costumes. Other attractions at the event include a large silent auction, massive LEGO display, face painting, a horror alley, door prizes for customers who come in costume, weekend-long Magic: The Gathering tournaments and an extensive area for tabletop games.
With over 34,000 square feet of geeky awesomeness to enjoy, customers can choose from more than 100 exhibitors, artisans, communities and clubs on site selling amazing items at great prices. Admission is $10 a day (children 12 and under get in for free) or $15 for a weekend pass. Tickets can only be purchased at the door. The event runs from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday the 19th, and from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday the 20th.
