What are your hours of operation?
The event will be taking place in the Curling Rink and Rink 3 of the Nepean Sportsplex at the following times:
Saturday March 23, 2019: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sunday March 24, 2019: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
What exactly IS a Geek Market?
The Ottawa Geek Market is a local festival run by fans FOR fans. Our event is a geek-themed festival that focuses on pop culture fandoms like Marvel, Game of Thrones, and video gaming, through activities and shopping. Think of us as being like a comic convention but without the celebrities and instead alot more interactive activities like video gaming, board gaming, a scavenger hunt, carnival-style games, and even a LEGO play area.
What is the layout of the event? Where can I find your floor plan?
Our event is taking place inside the Curling Rink and Rink 3 at the Nepean Sportsplex. We’ll post a floor plan closer to the event. You can also find more information on how to access the rooms on our Getting Here page.
I'm coming from out of town. Where can I stay that's close to the event?
The event is taking place at the Nepean Sportsplex on Woodroffe Avenue. There are no hotels within walking distance from the event, however there are many in the area, especially if look close to the airport, which is about a 10 minute drive from the event. The official hotel of our event is the Days Inn Airport. We’ll post more information about their rates closer to the event.
I'm with the media, how can I get accredited to cover your event?
We ask that all media pre-register for our event by filling out our media accreditation form on our Media page.
What kinds of items can I buy at your event?
Our event caters to fans of all things comic books, super heroes, sci-fi,fantasy, gaming, steampunk, horror, and anime. You’ll be able to find items like clothing, books, art, jewellery, games, manga, cosplay accessories, and household items. Is your event kid friendly?
Yes! We are happy to provide a fun and safe environment for kids of all ages at our event. We’ll be hosting all sorts of fun activities including a Lego display and play area, colouring, meet & greets with heroes and villains, face painting, and so much more. I've got some items to sell, how do I sign up to be an exhibitor? Can I sell items on consignment?
We will be accepting exhibitor applications until December 1st, 2018. To apply please visit our Apply to be An Exhibitor page.
We do not offer consignment options at our Geek Market events. If you’re interested in consigning items, please check out the Geek and Gaming Garage Sale event (the next one is taking place in June 2019) as they definitely accept items on consignment.
What's the best day to come to the event?
That’s a tough one, it really depends on why you’re coming to the event.
Why come Saturday
- You’ll get first access to the amazing selection of merchandise that our exhibitors are bringing.
- There are some great board gaming tournaments and demos taking place.
- You’ll get first crack at the fantastic prizes available for participating in our Geek Quest (scavenger hunt)
- The costume contest will be running this day.
- Is the best day for people watching.
Why come Sunday
- The parking lot won’t be packed.
- The event (especially in the afternoon) will be less busy, so you’ll have easier access to exhibitor booths and our activities.
- You’ll get access to a great selection of merchandise that our exhibitors are bringing. Some even offer special Sunday sales.
- There are some great board gaming tournaments and demos taking place.
- We’ll still have some prizes available for participating in our Geek Quest (scavenger hunt)
- The results of the costume contest will be announced at 3pm.

Venue & Amenities
Where is the event taking place?
The event is taking place in the Curling Rink and Rink 3 at the Nepean Sportsplex. For directions and advice on how to find our event once on site, please visit our Getting Here page.
What kind of food will be available on site?
You’ll be able to find all sort of geeky foods in our food court (at the back of the Curling Rink) including: butterbeer, and other geek-themed coffees and teas, tasty baking, and all sorts of delicious hot food. There is a canteen on the first floor of the facility and the Spectators Lounge (which is attached to the Curling Rink) will also be open and offering pub fare.
Do I need to pay for parking?
Nope! Parking at the Sportsplex is free. That said it WILL be packed on Saturday so we encourage folks coming that day to carpool, use nearby Park & Rides, or take the bus (on routes #94, #95 or #173).
Ticket Info & How to Pay for Items at the Event
How much do tickets cost? Where can I get them?
Ticket prices will be announced in the coming weeks, but our tickets will be in the $10-$35 range.
Kids 12 and under get in for free with a paying adult (max 5 kids per adult, the first 3 are free, the 4th and 5th child are $2 each).
Can I buy tickets at the door?
A limited number of tickets are available to purchase at the door (cash only), however if we sell out, only patrons who have pre-purchased tickets will be admitted in to the event.
Do exhibitors accept debit or credit cards?
Some exhibitors will accept credit cards, but only one or two accept debit. Your best bet is to arrive with cash. There are 4 ATMs on site to help too. One right at the main entrance to the Curling Rink, one inside the Curling Rink, one inside Rink 3, and one on the top floor of the Sportsplex to the left of the canteen.

Are you offering any special promotions?

2. If it’s your birthday the day you attend the event, your ticket is free! Just show us I.D.
I hate waiting in line. Do you offer any deals so I can skip the line?

I bought a ticket but can't come anymore. Can I get a refund?
We regret that we do not offer refunds on tickets once purchased. Perhaps one of your friends would like to go in your place?
How many kids can I bring in for free?
Children 12 and under get in for free at our event when accompanied by an adult (max 5 kids per adult). One paying adult can admit up to 3 children at no extra cost, the 4th and 5th child are $2 each.
Note that we don’t offer children’s passes for advance ticket sales because there’s no price difference if you pay at the door or before the event. You can simply pay once you’re on site.
I'm disabled and require an attendant. Does my attendant need to pay to get in?
Your attendant gets in to the event for free. Please just let our admissions staff know that they are your attendant when it’s your turn to pay.

What are your safety & harassment policies?
Patron safety is of upmost importance to us. We have a number of policies in place to make sure our patrons stay safe at our event including a zero tolerance policy for harassment. For more details please visit our Event Policies page and remember, cosplay does NOT equal consent.
I plan on coming in cosplay. What are your prop and weapons policies?
We’re so glad you plan on cosplaying! Our prop and weapons policy can be found by scrolling down our Event Policies page. Please note that our safety team will be checking all props and weapons before you enter either the Richmond Ballroom of Curling Rink.
