Board Gaming Convention
In fact, the more you play, the more FREE prizes you’ll get. Here’s how it’ll work:
- Check a game out of the library = 5 tokens
- Check out a game demo = 10 tokens
- Play in a tournament = 20 tokens
- Win a tournament = 100 tokens
Once you’re done playing, bring your tokens downstairs to our Prize Redemption booth at the back of the Curling Rink and purchase the free prizes that tempt you the most. All prizes at that booth are also for sale, so if you don’t have enough tokens you can pay the difference with cash.
Board Gaming Library
Check out a board game, like a book at a library, and play to your hearts content. They’ll have some volunteers to help you navigate a wide selection of family, party, strategy and euro games, and get you playing.
New to gaming? No problem at all – they’ll teach you!

The following tournaments will be taking place:

Description: Ancient civilizations have left us many wonders to marvel at. Have you ever wanted to join their ranks and leave a legacy for generations to come?
In 7 Wonders you and your opponents will take turns drafting cards in order to build the perfect civilization. Each turn you will add a card to your tableau, paying for them with the resources that your or your neighbours have cultivated. The game is played over 3 “Ages” at the end of which players will total up their points. The player with the most points has built the greatest civilization and is the winner of the game! Base game rules, Leaders Expansion rules, Cities Expansion rules.
Tournament format: Players will participate in a 7 Player game of 7 Wonders. After the first round the top 2 players from each game, and a wildcard pick will play a final 5 player game. The winner of that game will be crowned the leader of the world’s greatest civilization!
Games will be 45 minutes maximum. *Games will be played with 7 Wonders plus the Leaders and Cities expansions*
Description: Welcome to Medieval Carcassonne, France! You’ve come to exert your influence and rule this land.
In Carcassonne players will take turns placing tiles to create the landscape of Carcassonne, France. When a tile has been placed the player may then decide to place one of their limited amount of meeples on that tile. Depending on the landscape your meeples can either be farmers (fields), thieves (roads), knights (cities), or a monk (monastery). Your meeples are limted, but, with the exception of farmers, you will get them back once their section is completed. Use them wisely and you may be the new ruler of Carcassonne! Rules available here.
Tournament format: During this tournament players will participate in a series of games over as many as 3 rounds. During the first round players will play a 5 player game with the top 3 from each game, and a wildcard moving onto the next round. The second round will also see players facing off against each other in 5 player games. The top 2 players from each of these games will move onto the finals. Finals will consist of a single 4 player game, the winner of which will be named the new ruler of Carcassonne!
Games will be 45 minutes maximum. *Games will be played with the base game only, no expansions including the River*
SETTLERS OF CATAN
Description: Welcome, settler, to the island of Catan! Will you be able to establish economic dominance over your rivals, or will you civilization simply be a footnote in the annals of history?
Catan is a game of trading, economics, and civilization building. You must carefully choose strategic locations for your settlements which will you allow you to extract valuable resources from the land in order to expand your civilization. Throughout the game you will earn points for building settlements, expanding your army, and having the largest trade roads. The first player to reach 10 points is the winner! Tournament format:This Catan tournament will consist 3 rounds. In the first round players will participate in a 6 player game of Catan. From there the top 4 players from each game will move onto the next round which will be another 6 player game. Finally, the top 2 players from each game will face off in a 4 player game to see who will be crowned the champion!
Games will be 1 hour maximum. *Games will be played with the base game plus the 5-6 player expansion*
TICKET TO RIDE
Description: Grab your trains and plan your routes as you strive to be a turn-of-the-century rail tycoon!
Ticket to ride is an exciting game of set collecting and route building. On a player’s turn they may either draw new cards into their hand, or play sets of cards in order to claim routes on the map. Full rules available here.
Tournament format: In this tournament players will play a five player game of Ticket to Ride lasting a maximum of 1 hour. From each of the 3 games the top 3 players will move onto the next round, with one wildcard spot being awarded. The following round will see the top 2 players of each game move onto the finals where the top player from that 4 player game will claim the coveted title of Rail Baron!
*Games will be played on the North American board with the addition 1910 routes*
Dead of Winter is a meta-cooperative psychological survival game. This means players are working together toward one common victory condition — but for each individual player to achieve victory, he must also complete his personal secret objective. This secret objective could relate to a psychological tick that’s fairly harmless to most others in the colony, a dangerous obsession that could put the main objective at risk, a desire for sabotage of the main mission, or (worst of all) vengeance against the colony! Certain games could end with all players winning, some winning and some losing, or all players losing. Work toward the group’s goal, but don’t get walked all over by a loudmouth who’s looking out only for his own interests!
Waterdeep, the City of Splendors – the most resplendent jewel in the Forgotten Realms, and a den of political intrigue and shady back-alley dealings. In this game, the players are powerful lords vying for control of this great city.
