We are proud to announce the second iteration of the Ottawa Geek Market Arts Scholarship program, which seeks to recognize young geeky artists who share our passion for comic books, science-fiction, fantasy, gaming, anime, or horror.
Honouring the Written Word
For our spring 2016 event we’re hosting a writing competition for short story authors of science-fiction, fantasy, and horror. The winner of each category will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Application Process: Deadline to apply is March 11, 2016
To be eligible for the scholarships you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen.
- Be attending a post-secondary program (this includes colleges, universities and art schools) in Canada in the 2016 academic year.
- Be available to accept your prize at the Ottawa Geek Market the weekend of April 8th to 10th (free admission for all finalists will be provided).
Stories must range from 1000-5000 words (firm) and must be unpublished, online and/or in print, to be eligible. All works must be original and all rights must reside with the author; fanfiction will not be accepted. We will not consider any work that promotes hatred of any kind against any non-fictional group.
You may submit your story in English or French. Please note that you may only apply for one writing category in one language.
We will start accepting applications on January 15th, 2016. Applications and stories must be submitted to Ottawa Geek Market by March 11th, 2016. Finalists will be announced on April 1st, 2016 and the final selection will take place during the Ottawa Geek Market which is taking place April 8th to 10th, 2016.
Finalist and winner selection will be completed by a blind jury process of critically acclaimed authors (who will be revealed in the coming weeks).
