Ottawa – October 4, 2016: Time flies when you’re getting your geek on! On October 15th and 16th, the Ottawa Geek Market will be celebrating its fifth anniversary as the premiere festival embracing and showcasing all things comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, costuming, anime, steampunk and horror.
“We’re so proud to be Ottawa’s largest geeky festival,” said event show manager Erica Noordermeer. “The event keeps growing. We had no idea the community would support our little volunteer-run event in such a big way when we started it back in 2012.”
As a thank you, the Ottawa Geek Market has lowered its admission price to just $5 in advance (or $8 at the door). Children 12 and under get in for free when accompanied by an adult.
“We’ve got plenty of activities to keep patrons busy when they aren’t shopping including board gaming, video gaming, two escape rooms, and a LEGO play area,” said Noordermeer “There will also be judges walking around the event looking for amazing costumes and awarding prizes on the spot.”
The event, which will be held in the Nepean Sportsplex Curling Rink, will also feature more than 100 exhibitors selling items ranging from comic books, games and collectibles, to art, home décor, Halloween-themed items and everything in between.
Proceeds raised at the Geek Market will go towards the event’s Arts Scholarship Program and two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded on site to winners of the costume accessories scholarship contest.
If you’re in to Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, the Walking Dead, Disney, the Avengers, Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Deadpool, Suicide Squad, or any other awesome geeky fandom, this is the place to be!
